Superb Box Grater Fruit Salad

Meal 60 - July 21st - Superb Box Grater Salad

The 15 minute meals book contains a whole chapter of breakfasts which aren't included on the TV show. They're not supposed to take 15 minutes but on the whole they have been clever, tasty and straightforward recipes that I would do again. I can't help but feel a little dubious of this fruit salad though. Aside from the fact that a fruit salad is not a breakfast I don't understand why the fruit needs to be grated. It's as if Jamie decided that the bog standard fruit salad was not exciting enough to be 15 minute meal worthy so he rummaged around in his kitchen cupboard until he found a suitable utensil to funk it up. I said funk it up.

The grating is actually one of the main problems. Bananas, for instance are not designed to be grated. Instead of grating they kind of mush up it your hands or stick to the grater. Apples and pears just about grate, but the nectarine and strawberries just end up a soggy pulp.

Another problem is that, unlike Jamie, I don't have food stylists or professional photographers, and so, unlike the picture in the book, my picture actually does look like the soggy, pulpy, mush that it is.

To be fair it doesn't taste bad. It's all good fruit and the honey and sesame seeds add a hit of sweetness and crunch, but it just seems a bit of a waste. Much like your blueberry pancakes or your bacon and eggs, or indeed pretty much any other breakfast, this would be much better without being put through a grater. The fact that it called a "Superb" fruit salad just rubs it in a bit.
